Common questions
Is DrumThings really free?
Yes. There are no ads, no subscriptions and no locked features. The tip jar in Settings is optional and unlocks nothing; it just helps keep the app on the App Store.
How do I sync between my iPads?
DrumThings syncs through your own iCloud account. On each iPad, sign in with the same Apple Account and turn on iCloud, and iCloud Drive for DrumThings, in Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
Settings in DrumThings shows your iCloud status. If iCloud is off, the app still works, but your data is only on that iPad.
A book or audio file says it isn't downloaded
Large files live in iCloud Drive and download when you open them. To keep everything on the iPad, for example before a gig, use Download for offline on a book or setlist, or Download all files in DrumThings' Settings. You need an internet connection to download.
How do I undo a mistake or get back something I deleted?
DrumThings keeps automatic backups in your iCloud Drive. Open Settings › Backups, pick a backup from before the change and tap Restore. Because sync copies a deletion to all your devices, restore from a backup rather than waiting for sync to bring it back.
Do I need an Apple Pencil?
Drawing on charts and marking up book pages use Apple Pencil, so your hand can rest on the screen while you write. Everything else (the click, library, clips, setlists, performance mode and audio player) works with your finger.
Which page-turn pedals work?
In performance mode, DrumThings responds to Bluetooth pedals that act as a keyboard. Right arrow, down arrow, Page Down and Space go forward; left arrow, up arrow and Page Up go back. Most pedals send arrow keys by default.
Does importing a PDF change the original?
No. Markup, hidden pages, page order and clips are saved separately, so the original PDF is never modified.
Which iPads are supported?
Any iPad running iPadOS 26.5 or later.
Can I get a refund for a tip?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I delete all my data?
Delete the app, then remove DrumThings' data from iCloud in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage. We don't hold any copy of your data. See the privacy policy.
